The Hope for Future Generations and the PsykForum have expressed worry over harmful traditional and cultural practices that are enforced on persons with disability.
According to the two non-governmental organisations, these negative practices continue to persist due to lack of monitoring and enforcement of laws and policies protecting persons with disability and mental health.
“If people with disabilities including people with mental health conditions can enjoy their rights and dignity, including their rights to employment, it is important that relevant policies and laws are enforced in a stigma-free environment at all levels of the country.”
The Hope for Future Generations and the PsykForum made this known in a statement issued to mark International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPD).
