Armed robbers have snatched an ash grey Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number GS 2525-22 at gunpoint around the Tamale Islamic Senior High School in Tamale on Wednesday.
According to the owner, he arrived home from a trip and his brother came to open the gate.
He said while he drove in, he saw two unknown gunmen who marched his brother into the compound and ordered them to lie on the ground.
The traumatised car owner said they lay on the ground while the robbers took his phones from him, forced him and his brother into his hall and locked them up with other members of his family.
He said the robbers then drove out of the compound. The incident has since been reported to be police.
This is not the first time armed men have snatched a car around the area. From 2021 to date, four vehicles including a V8 vehicle of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chair Sofo Azoka were stolen at gunpoint in that neighbourhood.
Two of the vehicles were recovered by a joint operation by the Northern Regional police team and their counterparts from the Upper East Region and Burkina Faso.
JoyNews gathered that the vehicles are normally stolen from Tamale and sent to Bolgatanga and then transited to Burkina Faso where they are said to be in high demand.
