After over 15 years of bants and rants in Asante Akyem Central, the Member of Parliament for the area, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, has cut sod for the construction of an Astroturf at Odumasi (OU park), the first ever in the history of Asante Akyem Central Municipality in the Ashanti region.
This is to help enhance and improve the development of young football talents in the area.
The pitch, which is the initiative of the MP with funding support from the Volta River Authority, is estimated at a cost of 3.5 million Ghana Cedis and will be completed within six(6) months.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the event, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Robert Yaw Kwakye, heaped praises on Mr. Anyimadu Antwi for his outstanding performance and seeing to the development of the municipality.

He assured that other parts of the area will soon have their share of the national cake.
"We are much grateful to our Member of Parliament, Hon Anyimadu Antwi for this kind of initiative, we pray that the good Lord will always guide and protect him. It is our plan that every zone in Asante Akyem Central will get their own Astroturf, plans have been made for that and so I will plead with all the constituents to relax because very soon they will also get theirs," he said.
The Assembly Member of the area, Samuel Ohemeng, also said the Astroturf will not serve Odumasi alone but the whole Asante Akyem Central. He explained that the Astroturf will promote sporting and economic activities for the betterment of the constituency.

"This will be the first ever Astroturf and it will benefit all the people in Asante Akyem Central and not only Odumasi. It will help nurture sports talents and promote economic activities in this area," he stated.
In the 2018 State of the Nation Address of President Akufo-Addo, he reiterated his government's commitment to sports development.
Asante Akyem Central is made up of 22 communities, It has produced great sportsperson including Sulley Muntari, Rabiu Mohammed, Vida Anim, John Ampomah and others.
