Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the weekend outdoored a recently constructed astroturf at Teshie near Accra, and faced a disapproving audience as some patrons at the event expressed their dissatisfaction by booing.
The newly constructed facility in the Ledzokuku constituency, a partnership between NHIA CEO Bernard Okoe-Boye, and McDan Group, was launched on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

As the guest of honour at the event, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia encountered a challenging entry, met with disapproving jeers directed at the government.
A video circulating on social media captures a significant portion of the audience chanting against President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The chants included a particular song translated as "Nana Akufo-Addo, we are suffering...? We will express our frustration."
The Astro-turf pitches are part of the government's efforts to address the infrastructure challenges in the sports sector.

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia says the construction of astroturfs "has become synonymous with our government, and this facility adds to the over 150 Astroturfs in other parts of the country, constructed since 2017, compared to the 3 Astroturfs in Ghana we inherited."
It was put up by Wembly Sports Construction Limited.
