Yendi MP Farouk Aliu Mahama says he is not waiting for government to fulfil the water needs of his people.
The MP revealed during a news conference that he has sunk more than 100 boreholes since he assumed office as MP for Yendi Constituency.
Just about 40% of residents in Yendi are connected to clean and potable water, a situation the MP says authorities are working round the clock to improve.
"For now, in Yendi, the coverage is around 40%, some people have access to water through Ghana water.
"But as I said, even before I became MP, I had done over 20 boreholes for the people of Yendi. Since I became MP, and through my partnership and network, I have been able to come up with 100 water projects", he said.
Farouk Aliu Mahama asked the Sanitation and Water Resources Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah about the state of work of the Yendi water project which was promised by President Akufo-Addo.
The Minister explained on the floor of the House that work will commence in the second quarter of 2023 and government is currently working on the choice of Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors which are in their final stages.
Farouk Aliu Mahama said he was happy about the response of the Minister and will keep an eye on the project to ensure that work starts on time as promised.
He implored his constituents to have patience as authorities work to deal with the water situation.
"I want my people to bear all this in mind and have patience", he concluded.
