“When communities need us, we step in to improve their lives.” These were the words of Nana Kwame Afful, Director of Agro Crown West Africa Company Limited, as he commissioned a newly constructed mechanized borehole for the Ofosu community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

Addressing community members at the ceremony, Mr. Afful described the project as a direct response to the critical water challenges faced by residents.

“Even when it rains, you still need water. People here were forced to drink from the same sources as cattle something clearly unsafe and unacceptable. This borehole is not just a facility; it is a lifeline,” he emphasized.

The Director underscored the importance of access to clean water as a fundamental human right and a key pillar of public health.

“With this water, their health is going to be improved. Their well-being is going to be improved as well,” he stated.

AgroCrown West Africa, known for its commitment to rural development, identifies and acts on the pressing needs of underserved communities.

Mr. Afful revealed that many of their interventions originate from ideas and insights brought forward by young people and team members embedded in the regions.

“Usually what happens is our boys around bring the idea, and then we support. We don’t wait — when we see a need, we invest appropriately,” he said.

He recounted a similar initiative in 2023 when the company built a school block for the community of Lumbui in the Tolon District of the Northern Region, reinforcing Agrow Crown’s broader commitment to social impact.

While celebrating the provision of clean water, Mr. Afful emphasized the crucial role of the community in maintaining the facility.

“Maintenance is key. When there is a leakage or the pump breaks down, they must fix it. If it’s left unattended, they won’t enjoy the full benefit of this gift,” he cautioned.

Mr. Afful also called on the government to identify and address similar water challenges across the country.

“We are doing our part, but the government can also look at other areas where these water issues persist and step in to support,” he urged.

For the people of Ofosu, the borehole represents hope, dignity, and a future free from the health hazards of unsafe water.
