Quophi Okyeame, a broadcaster and musician, has revealed that he was the ghost writer for ‘Maba’, a song by Ex-Doe which was released in the late 90s.
‘Maba’ has always made it to the list of ‘diss’ songs produced by Ghanaian artistes. It was actually a song Ex-Doe did to jab Chicago after the two were locked in a duel following their misunderstanding over the 'Daavi Mede Kuku' song in 1996.
In the song, rapper also throws salvos at some rappers including the originator of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone.
Quophi Okyeame made the revelation when he was naming some musicians he had written songs for, in an interview with Joy FM's Kwame Dadzie.
“…and I wrote for Ex-Doe. This is why Reggie will never like me,” he said.
According to him, he wrote the entire ‘Maba’ song after Ex-Doe approached him with a beat that had been given to him by Nana King.
“Ex-Doe came to me in Kumasi. He actually moved from Accra, came to Kumasi. He had a beat from Nana King and was looking for what to say with it, so we brainstormed and the idea came because people were living in Accra, we were living in Kumasi, we were the kingpins of the Kumasi rap and an Accra person was claiming Presidency,” he told Joy FM.
Quophi mentioned that apart from writing all the songs for the Akyeame group, he also wrote for Becca, Dela and others.
He said he decided to pull the reins on his music career (especially on stage performances) because he had always been an introvert, a reason during their Akyeame days, he always pushed Okyeame Kwame to the fore while he stayed back to engineer things.
Since he left the Akyeame group he has released songs such as 'Keep on Moving', 'Shake That Thing', 'One Way', 'Krokyia' and 'Ennyi Me Mma.'
