The headmistress of St Marys Girls SHS has debunked rumours that the school has sacked 15 students who are pregnant.
Alice Martha Adjei advised the pregnant students to stay home and resume their studies after giving birth.
“We are urging all parents, especially of students in form 3, to come and register them so that they can write their final exams.
"Those in form 1 and 2 too should also come back to school after putting to bed...we have not sacked anyone,” she said.
Her comments come after reports that 15 students of St. Mary’s Girls Senior High School in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti region are pregnant.
According to a source, four are final-year students, 10 are form two students while the other lady is a form one student.
There were reports that the management of the school is worried about the rising cases of pregnancy among students and believes it will cause a negative impact on the school.
In an interview, the headmistress, Alice Martha Adjei, spoke about the other challenges facing the school such as not having a fence around the school and people walking on school property.
She asked for government's support and called on other stakeholders to come to their rescue.
“As you can see our fence walls are all broken, we are managing, we need dormitories also to support the girls and no teachers are staying around also. We are calling on NGOs and other stakeholders to come to our aid,“ she added.
St. Mary’s Girls Senior High School is one the fastest-growing school in the Ashanti region. It was established in 2007.
It is the only girl's Catholic Mission school under the Konongo-Mampong Diocese.
They were the winners of the Annual Presidential debate in the municipality from 2014, 2015 and 2016.
