Former Asante Kotoko player Godwin Ablordey has slammed the lack of quality in the current team as their struggles in the 2022/23 season continue.
According to him, none of the players in the current setup will get a place in the Porcupine Warriors team that he was part of during his playing days.
The team's former players have had their fair of criticism for the players at the club as they seek a late chase to retain the Ghana Premier League title.
However, Ablordey, who is the current assistant coach at King Faisal, believes the Kotoko team are far behind in terms of the quality needed to be a Porcupine Warrior.
“They [Kotoko] have no special quality players like they used to have in the past such as Stephen Oduro, Jordan, and the rest," he told Akoma FM.
"I won't blame the current management for recruiting these average players because the league itself lacks quality. Most of the players playing in the other clubs are average ones unlike during our time when most of the players were in the senior national teams."
He added that despite coming at a huge cost, the management needs to poach talents outside the country.
“If Kotoko really wants to recruit quality, they need to scout outside the shores of Ghana and that is costly. The fans however must support the team financially by attending matches so management can recruit the kind of quality they (supporters) are craving for," he continued.
“I'm sorry to say this, but none of the current Kotoko crop of players would have gotten a place in our team during our playing days."
Kotoko find themselves fourth on the league table after 25 games played, five points behind league leaders Aduana Stars.
