The Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) has inducted over 100 new members into the institute.
The induction ceremony, which was held on the theme; “Shaping the future of procurement and supply chain through professionalism”, saw 58 full members, 75 members associate members, 9 student members and 15 fellows inducted into the institute.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the institute, Simon Annan called for the swift passage of the procurement bill.
According to him, the passage of the bill will be an essential tool to save the country millions of cedis lost through procurement infractions.

“Procurement infractions constitutes over 70% of audit findings. When you look at the Auditor General’s report, we can resolve this by promoting the ethical standards of professionals through the passage of the procurement practicing bill.”
He further called on procurement professionals to uphold the highest ethical standards.
The Executive Secretary of the institute, Celestine Djane called for deepened collaborations with government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the growth of the procurement industry.

“It is important that we rally behind GIPS, we are asking government and all relevant stakeholders to support the institute’s course of ensuring ethical procurement in the country.“
One of the newly inducted fellows and former president of the institute, Collins Agyemang, called on procurement professionals to team up and form a strong partnership to champion the course of procurement profession.

Former Minister of Education, Prof Ameyaw Akumfi and Colonel Joshua Agbortui were inducted as honourary fellows while Professor Douglass Boateng was bestowed a distinguished fellow of the institute.
