Authorities at Weweso Basic School in the Ashanti region are courting the help of government and other stakeholders to construct a wall to protect the school’s lands.
Headmistress, Priscilla Akohene Mensah, says the construction will ward off squatters, stop encroachment and reduce other threats posed to pupils.

As part of the 70th-anniversary celebration of the Basic School, authorities have prioritized the construction of a wall to help secure the school’s land from encroachers.
Several efforts to secure the school land in the past have proved futile.

According to the headmistress of the school, Priscilla Akohene Mensah, the government and stakeholders should support the school in its attempt to offer security to the pupils.
“Our biggest challenge in the community is with security and that is mainly because we do not have a wall around the school. This is a very big challenge so I will entreat government and other stakeholders to come to our aid to offer security to our pupils” she said.

The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Abraham Antwi, highlighted the government’s effort to ensure the safety of pupils in various schools in the municipality.
He said the assembly is willing to help the school with its needs.
“As an assembly, it is a burden upon us to ensure the safety of every school child in the community. We are doing so across the entire municipality and we will do more to help the Weweso Basic School” he said.

President of the Weweso Old Students’ Association, Bernice Owusu Peprah, wants the government to prioritize the safety of the pupils.
“We don’t want to wake up one day and hear any bad news. Government must ensure that the safety of all these children is prioritised. It's important."
