Sports journalist and events host, Nathaniel Attoh has advised people who want to pursue a career in emceeing on how to treat humour in their delivery.
Responding to an admonition by comedian OB Amponsah for comedians to be considered for event hosting roles, Nathaniel admitted on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z that in as much as comedians can be event emcees, being funny is not the only attribute needed to do the job.
“OB is one person I have introduced on stage quite a number of times. He is a wonderful gentleman, a fine performer and a natural at that. But you see it depends on what the event organiser wants. If the originator of the event says we are having a 40th birthday party and today we just wanna let our heads down, no dress code, we are just coming in there, give us good music from the band stand, play some good music on the DJ’s console, then you can have a comedian who is good at steering events from the start to the finish. Being a comedian alone is not enough to make you a qualified person to MC,” Nat told the host Kwame Dadzie.
He also a shared scenario where a comedian who emceed a programme made an irresponsible joke of the death of someone.
“It shouldn’t be cast in stone. There are standards and once you have a definition for what you’re looking for, you go out there into the market and you look for those who are primed for it and those who are adapted for it,” he noted.
Nathaniel Attoh, a broadcaster at The Multimedia Group has compered a lot of events including the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2015, Ghana Movie Awards 2011, Ghana Banking Awards 2015, CIMG Awards 2013, SWAG Awards (5 Editions), GJA Awards.

Others are 20th Anniversary Dinner of Golden Tulip Hotel, Ghana, Opening of UT Bank, Ghana 2009, 60th Anniversary of GCB Bank (then Ghana Commercial Bank), Rhythms On Da Runway, Miss Universe Ghana, Host Miss Universe Ghana, 2018, among others.
He is highly revered for his unmatched oratory skills and confidence in his work as an MC or radio show host.
