The Ketu North Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the party's leadership for the good work done in the Kumawu by-election.
Edem Agbanna said the party made significant gains in the New Patriotic Party’s stronghold.
According to him, this is a great step the party must build on to win power in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a Facebook post, Mr Agbana urged the rank and file of the party to continue their hard work to achieve the party’s aim.
“Kudos to the NDC leadership for the impressive work done in Kumawu. Despite the vote buying schemes and overnight projects, we made significant gains in such a traditional NPP stronghold. Let's build on it. Victory 2024 is a must.”
Meanwhile, Edem Agbana in a media interview criticised the continuous monetisation of Ghana’s democracy.
According to him, this is not addressed will erode the gains in the country’s democracy.
Ernest Yaw Anim, the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary candidate for the Kumawu by-election emerged victorious in Tuesday’s polls.
At the end of the by-election on May 23, 2023, Mr Anim polled 15,264 votes to beat the NDC candidate, Kwesi Amankwah, and two Independent Candidates, both of whom are called Kweku Duah.
The NDC’s Kwesi Amankwah garnered 3,723 votes while Kwaku Duah (1) had 2,478 votes with the other Kwaku Duah managing a paltry 62 votes.
Meanwhile, during the exercise, there were allegations of vote buying.
The two major political parties had taken turns accusing each other of inducing voters with gifts and cash to vote for their preferred candidates.
