Ghana’s housing sector is envisaged to experience substantial gains with interventions proffered by doctoral students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Department of Architecture.
Their works ranging from climate-smart houses to inclusive designs outline ways Ghana’s built environment can meet the ever-changing demands of the citizens and environment.
The presentation forms part of the requirements for graduation.
25 works were screened by a panel consisting of the Head of the Centre for Settlement Studies, Prof. Divine Ahadzie, Head of the Architecture Department, Prof. Rexford Assasie-Oppong, construction technology and management consultant, Prof. Emmanuel Adinyira and Prof. Kwasi Preko of the Physics Department.
Third-year PhD student, Miss Henrietta Brew Ntim-Addae whose work focused on interior green blue spaces was crowned the overall best.
President of the group, Mr. Prince Ofori Abrokwa was optimistic the works will inform policy.
“These works must inform policy frameworks to the benefit of the country,” he said.
Prof. Emmanuel Adinyira who served as an external assessor was impressed with some of the presentations and urged other researchers to actively communicate their activities.
“I’ve been very impressed with some of them. Of course they’re students and there are always things they can improve upon. In academia we tend to be quite fussy about writing papers but a very important way to communicate our researchers is through posters,” he said.
The poster presentation coordinator, Dr. Martin Larbi was grateful to the Department for making the event possible.
