The Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Rev. Philip Naameh has sent out a reminder to Catholics to constantly be guided by their faith and stick to holiness as it will go a long way to direct their actions, in and outside the Church, homes, and workplaces.
"As a church, holiness is the ordinary means for every Catholic. For a Catholic to be holy, it's a normal way everyone should strive for and allow the holy spirit to be our guide", Archbishop Naameh reiterated.
The immediate past president of The Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference gave the reminder when he received pilgrims from three junior Councils and Courts in the Tamale metropolis who embarked on a pilgrimage to the tomb of the Servant of God, Peter Cardinal Porekuu Dery located in the Our Lady of Annunciation(OLA) Cathedral in Tamale in Northern Region.
The pilgrims were there to offer spiritual support through prayers for his (late Peter Cardinal Dery) beatification and canonization as a Saint in the Catholic Church.

The late Cardinal was an Archbishop Emeritus of Tamale and a member of the Knights of Columbus to which the Knights of Marshall is affiliated under the International Alliance of Catholic Knights who later became the Supreme Spiritual Director of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall.
The pilgrims were from Mary Gate to Heaven, Junior Council and Court, 80J, Mary Mother of Hope, Junior Council, 101J, and, Our Lady of Victory, Junior Council and Court, 126J.

The Vice Chairperson of the Junior Organisers Committee of Mary Mother of Hope, Junior Council and Court, Sister Dame Agnes Gandaa in an interview with with Myjoyonline said as a former Patron of the Noble Order, Cardinal Dery loved the rosary, the youth, and Children, and is credited with distributing rosaries to many Catholics across the Country, hence the pilgrimage to offer their spiritual support through prayers.

"So, we intend to continue to pray for the day that God will bless us with a Saint and his beatification process completed and canonization also done", Madam Dame Agnes Gandaa noted.
According to her, Junior Marshallans are much convinced that adding their prayers to that of the Church will be received by God.

From a humble beginning as a Priest on February 11th, 1951, the late Cardinal Dery rose to become the first indigenous Bishop of the then Tamale Diocese in 1974 and later, the first Archbishop in 1977 when it was elevated to the status of an Archdiocese.
Late Peter Cardinal Porekuu Dery had previously served as Bishop of Wa Diocese from 1960 till his appointment to Tamale.

He retired on March 26, 1994, and on March 24, 2006, was elevated to the Cardinalate by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and installed Cardinal-Deacon four days later.
He died on March 6, 2008, aged 89 years.
The Ghana phase of the beatification process of the late Cardinal has been completed and turned over to the Vatican for the second phase.

The process of canonization began in June 2013 with a petition submitted by the Tamale Archdiocese to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints at the Vatican which later issued 'no objection' to the petition, hence he was declared 'Servant of God'.
This was the first of four steps to Canonization in the Catholic Church which can only be initiated five years after the candidate’s death.
The second, third, and fourth steps are for the candidate to be declared Venerable, Blessed, and eventually, a Saint if the petition is successful.
