Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has opened up on the ordeal he went through following the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) decision after the match-fixing allegation involving AshantiGold and Inter Allies.
Lamptey was part of the individuals who were handed severe punishment by the GFA after their investigation but the case was subsequently taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) with the latter overturning the Ghana FA's decision.
In an interview with Kotoko's media, the former Inter Allies man revealed he almost considered retiring from the game after the verdict.
"It was very painful. Since the issue came up, I haven't really spoken about it. It was a really difficult time for me. The way my parents were lamenting, it was painful to see," Lamptey said.
"It really affected my game, going out became a problem for me and even when you go on social media and see some comments, you get discouraged.
"There was a point [when] I was contemplating retirement.
"I want to thank management for taking the issue to CAS and I feel vindicated now."
Lamptey made the switch to the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2021/22 season and was part of the club's league-winning squad.
