The Ghana Football Association GFA has partnered with Sunake Productions to produce From Debut to Destiny a landmark documentary commemorating twenty years of Ghana participation at the FIFA World Cup.
The feature-length production will chronicle the Black Stars' journey from their historic debut at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany to their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, capturing the defining moments, personalities and milestones that have shaped Ghana's presence on football's biggest stage.
The project forms part of activities marking two decades since Ghana first appeared at the World Cup becoming one of Africa most compelling teams through performances that inspired millions across the continent and beyond.
Produced in collaboration with the GFA From Debut to Destiny will feature exclusive interviews with key figures in Ghana football history including GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku former President of the Republic of Ghana H E John Agyekum Kufuor former Black Stars captain and all time top scorer Asamoah Gyan Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams and former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi alongside several former players coaches administrators and sports journalists.
The documentary will revisit Ghana World Cup journey across five tournaments Germany 2006 South Africa 2010 Brazil 2014 Qatar 2022 and the build up to 2026 highlighting both iconic highs and painful setbacks that have defined the national team global story.
Beyond archival footage and interviews the film will explore the broader impact of Ghana World Cup participation on national identity youth inspiration football development and the country reputation within world football.
Sunake Productions known for its storytelling in sports and human interest documentaries is leading the production with a focus on authentic narratives and historical depth.
Significantly the documentary is scheduled to premiere in Canada and the United States ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup positioning it as part of the global build up to the tournament.
On the sporting front Ghana has been drawn in a challenging 2026 World Cup group alongside England Croatia and Panama fixtures that will renew the Black Stars presence on the global stage and add contemporary relevance to the documentary release.
From Debut to Destiny is expected to serve both as a celebration of Ghana football journey and a timely reflection on the next chapter of the Black Stars World Cup ambition.
As anticipation builds toward 2026 the collaboration between the GFA and Sunake Productions promises a compelling historical record of Ghana twenty years World Cup story from debut to destiny.
