The Member of Parliament for the Ho West Constituency, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has joined an ad hoc committee of ECOWAS parliamentarians to mediate in the Niger crisis.
The team was put together on Thursday, August 17, 2023, as part of the regional Parliament’s efforts to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the impasse and also help avert a possible humanitarian situation that may arise in the case of a military action using preventive diplomacy.
The ad hoc committee is mandated as part of its work to engage the following persons and entities: the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of States and Government, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, the Leadership of the Military Junta, President Mohamed Bazoum, the Chair of the ECOWAS Joint Chief of Defence, and other relevant stakeholders involved in the mediation process in Niger.
The ECOWAS parliament, which is the house of representatives of the peoples of the community, provides a forum for dialogue, consultation, and consensus building on matters of common interest towards promoting peaceful coexistence and integration among its peoples.
The Ho West MP is expected to depart Accra on Friday August 18, 2023 to join his colleague team members at Abulja en route to Niamey, Niger for the peace talks.
