A video has surfaced online depicting a young woman, believed to be a student at Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, allegedly subjected to physical assault by her assistant headmaster.
This incident in the Eastern Region has resulted in severe consequences, with accounts suggesting that the young lady has suffered partial blindness as a result.
The victim, identified as Diana, reportedly faced the assault after attempting to explain to her headmaster that she had obtained permission to leave the school campus.
According to reports, the second-year student, Diana supposedly possessed valid permission to leave the campus, but her efforts to explain the situation to the headmaster were ignored.
The headmaster compelled the student to kneel down, and when she began expressing discomfort due to her health condition, he reportedly dismissed her concerns.
In response, the headmaster purportedly threatened her with more severe consequences, eventually leading to the physical assault.
During the altercation, the student inadvertently held the headmaster's cane when he intended to lash her, triggering his anger.
This allegedly led to a forceful slap to her face.
The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of students and the appropriate response by school authorities.
The unfortunate incident highlights the importance of handling disciplinary matters in a manner that respects the rights and well-being of students while ensuring a conducive learning environment.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service has dismissed the Assistant headmaster and the student is receiving medical care and counselling.
Additionally, the Eastern Regional Director of Education is “liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter.”
