Twenty health practitioners have benefited from community health entrepreneurship
course by the Mastercard Foundation Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative.
The short course which was in partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of
Science and Technology, seeks to empower community health workers in
entrepreneurship to stem the brain drain menace.
It is spearheaded by the Health Employment pillar of the Collaborative led by Dr.
Kofi Akohene Mensah
Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Christian Agyare mentioned that
“There is a huge opportunity for building and scaling human capital within the sector.
To meet current market demands, health workers require differentiated competencies
including tangible skills that can be marketed to prospective employers but also
encourage self-employment when feasible.”
Pro Vice -Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,
Prof. Ellis Owusu Dabo encouraged the participant to come out of their shells, take in
order to become resourceful.
“We want you to move away from the traditional mindset into doing something that
is new, engineered of the basis of how we see ourselves as health practitioners in the
next twenty years. What is going to be the trajectory of the health sector? Are we
ready to apply ourselves in the context of emerging trends in being resourceful? And
how much risk are you preparing to take? , that’s an entrepreneur,” he said.
