The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has deployed its digital meter reading system in the Volta Region to enhance billing processes to curtail challenges and promote transparency between ECG and customers.
This transformative move aims to streamline the process of collecting electricity consumption data, to ensure customers pay exactly the amount of energy consumed.
The digitization initiative involves the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) technology, allowing for real-time data collection and remote monitoring of electricity consumption.
This transition from traditional manual meter reading to digital systems would reduce human errors, improve billing accuracy, and enhance overall service delivery.
The General Manager of ECG in the Volta Region, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo is optimistic the digital transformation would have a positive impact on ECG’s operations.
She said the initiative would enhance efficiency and accuracy in the power distribution company’s operations.
Madam Jatoe-Kaleo, however, issued a caution to the public, urging residents to be vigilant and fish out individuals impersonating ECG staff to dupe them.
She urged customers to verify credentials before allowing anyone claiming to be from ECG access to their premises.
She also entreated the public to be on the lookout for people who would vandalize, temper or attempt to steal ECG properties and report immediately to officials or the police.
ECG also embarked on an education drive to enlighten customers on the step-by-step process of reading their meters and submitting the data directly to the company.
This initiative would not only promote transparency but also encourage active participation from consumers in managing their electricity usage.
