Imagine your life going on an upward trajectory, and it finally appears nothing can stop you, only to be hit by a terminal disease - kidney failure - that leaves you with a few months to live.

Yes, in 2010, that was the story of International Security and Military Relations Consultant, Commodore(Rtd) Micheal Kweku Addison.

Commodore Addison narrating his greatest challenge while climbing the ladder of success, said one morning he felt a bit dizzy which led him to call a doctor to attend to his issue.

However, he was told by the specialist, “You will be lucky to go past May.”

Speaking in the PM Personality Profile on January 5, the Military Consultant said, his world had come crashing down, as before the dizziness he was very healthy.

Although saddened by the news, he gathered the courage to tell his wife, whose response was what he had never envisioned.

He recalled her very words “'If anybody will have to donate a kidney for you, it will be me.' She said it straight like that.”

The Commodore said they met the doctor who had run various tests on her and found that his wife's kidney was a perfect match which led to the doctors asking if they were siblings.

Subsequently, they performed the transplant which helped prolong his life.
