Retired Police Officer COP George Alex Mensah has lost his bid to represent the Bekwai constituency in Parliament.
He lost the New Patriotic Party's primary to his contender, Ralph Poku-Adusei.
COP George Mensah lost the opportunity to vie for MP in the 2024 election after securing only 245 votes. The new parliamentary candidate, Mr Poku-Adusei won the candidacy with 662 votes.
The other contestants, Henry Opoku Ware and Kingsley Opoku Agyemang polled 30 and 1 vote respectively. The total votes cast was 938.
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu who did not seek re-election, openly endorsed the candidature of the retired police officer.
He had urged the delegates to vote massively for him, however, the delegates had a different candidate in mind.
