Today, Tuesday, February 6, marks the beginning of Parliament's first meeting of the fourth session.
During this session, a comprehensive line-up of 82 Bills is anticipated to be presented to the House for approval into law.
Among these bills are significant legislative proposals such as the Aged Persons Bill, of 2023, the Advertising Council Bill, of 2023, and the Consumer Protection Bill of 2023.

The Parliament's statement highlighted the importance of these bills in addressing various socio-economic and governance challenges within the country.
“The First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 8th Parliament is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 6th February 2024 at 10:00 am prompt. During this meeting, a total of 82 Bills are expected to be presented to the House."
During this session, the Parliament also will focus on advancing 12 bills currently at the committee level.
Notable among them are the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2023, under the purview of the Committee on Gender and Children, and the Social Protection Bill, 2023, also within the same committee's jurisdiction.
Additionally, the House will deliberate on private member’s bills such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
Members of Parliament have been urged to adhere to punctuality to ensure the smooth and efficient consideration of these bills before the House proceeds on recess, preceding the general elections.
