The Akuapem South MP, Osei Bonsu Amoah has denied claims that President Nana Akufo-Addo sacked some 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) because they did not campaign for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
On February 2, 2024, President Akufo-Addo relieved 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) of their duties.
The President noted that his decision was in accordance with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014, (Act 936).
However, the reasons for their dismissal are still unknown.

While the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, has denied that the decision was politically motivated, it is speculated that the dismissed DCEs were targeted because they did not campaign for Dr. Bawumia during the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, O.B. Amoah dismissed the claims that President Akufo-Addo dismissed the 24 DCEs due to their political affiliations, stating that the allegation is 'baseless.’
“Such allegations have no basis at all. There are probably some places where the DCEs did not campaign for Vice President Bawumia, but they are still in office and as to whether they have problems with their Members of Parliament, it depends on the president’s discretion as to whether such a person should still serve or let somebody else take over,” he said.
