Ghanaian rising music star, Agbeshie has shed light on the profound meaning behind his song, Duna.
In an interview with KMJ on Joy Prime’s On A More Serious Note show, the artiste delved into the inspiration behind 'Duna', revealing its poignant message aimed at combating body shaming.
Questioned on why most of his songs relate to the back and front of women, Agbeshie passionately expressed his desire to challenge societal norms surrounding body image, particularly emphasising the importance of respecting plus-sized women.
“People feel if you want to be a model, you have to be slim, and plus-size ladies are not respected.”
He articulated how the lyrics and visuals of "Duna" were intentionally crafted to advocate for inclusivity and empowerment, narrating a powerful scene depicting the struggles faced by plus-size women during auditions.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Agbeshie also addressed the misconception surrounding "Wrowroho," clarifying the dynamics of his collaboration with Medikal.
Despite coining the popular track together, Agbeshie candidly acknowledged Medikal's larger prominence in the Ghanaian music scene. “When you put Medikal and Agbeshie's brand in Ghana, Medikal is bigger than Agbeshie,” he said. He attributed the song's widespread recognition to his collaborator's established brand.
With "Duna," Agbeshie has not only captivated audiences with his infectious beats but has also ignited important conversations about visuals and body positivity.
