The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) in partnership with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council has exhibited love to pupils of selected schools in the Volta Region, as the work marks Valentine's Day.
A team from AGI led by the Volta/Eastern and Oti Chairperson, Dela Gazadzanku and the VRCC led by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa distributed locally produced chocolate and exercise books to the students.
They visited the Klefe Dome and Avee Basic Schools which are in cocoa-growing communities in the Ho Municipality.
Mr. Gadzanku explained that the initiative was to enable children who may not have seen or tasted the end product of cocoa to have a bite of one of the end products of the produce, chocolate.
He detailed that it was unfortunate for these children to have worked in the cocoa value chain but would only hear about chocolate and not have seen or tasted it, hence the initiative.
He entreated the pupils to work hard so they can become people of substance in the future by aiming at reaching the status of Dr. Letsa or his wife, Victoria Letsa.
Dr. Letsa said the visit was to exhibit love towards the learners as being done across the globe.
He encouraged the students to put their education first and not be deterred by their current situations.
He chronicled how he braced the storm through his education by studying with kerosene lanterns among other challenges at Klefe Atsatime, and came out successful.
“Today I am a Doctor, you can become Professors. When you study hard, you can become prominent people in society, engineers, teachers, journalists, and others”, he added.
The AGI said the move would become an annual affair and expanded to cover the entire Volta Region where learners would be given locally produced chocolates and exercise books on every Chocolate Day.
