The Roman Ridge School (TRRS) has once again demonstrated remarkable performance in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023, organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society (UK).

During a special awards ceremony held recently, the school celebrated an outstanding achievement, clinching a total of 269 medals out of a record-breaking 34,924 participants from across the Commonwealth.

Located in Accra, Ghana, TRRS showcased its prowess by submitting an unprecedented 637 entries to the competition.

Among the medals awarded were 22 Gold, 98 Silver, and 146 Bronze, with an additional honour of three Gold Medal Finalists shortlisted for the overall global prize.

The competition’s theme, 'A Youth Powered Commonwealth,' deeply resonated with TRRS students, who eloquently addressed the role of young people in global development and advocacy through their creative writing.

Distinguished guests at the awards ceremony, including Keith McMahon, Deputy British High Commissioner to Ghana, and John Apea, Head of Mission at the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), commended the students for their exceptional performance.

They emphasized the significance of literacy and communication skills in shaping future leaders and highlighted the importance of youth engagement and empowerment.

Valerie Mainoo, Principal of TRRS, expressed her pride in the students' achievements and extended gratitude to the staff and parents for their unwavering support.

She announced TRRS's significant milestones in the competition, including having the highest number of entries and medals in Ghana, Africa, and securing a place in the top five schools worldwide.

In a congratulatory message, Rev. Dr. Joyce R. Aryee, Chair of the TRRS Academic Board of Governors, urged the students to continue leveraging their voices to effect positive change in the world, emphasizing that their success marks only the beginning of their journey.
