The Electoral Commission (EC) has outlined its plan to expedite the announcement of results for the 2024 presidential polls, aiming to declare the outcomes within three days of voting.
As per the Electoral Commission’s Timetable of Activities for the 2024 elections, Regional Collation Centres will be utilised to announce results at the regional level.
Key milestones in the electoral process include the nomination of candidates, scheduled from September 9 to 13, followed by the balloting for positions on the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers on September 23 and 24, 2024, respectively.
In preparation for the elections, a voter registration drive will be conducted from May 7 to May 27, 2024, alongside a national initiative starting on May 30 to replace lost voter identification cards.
Furthermore, a 56-day public education campaign will precede the registration exercise, running from April 1 to May 26, 2024.
The EC plans to conduct an exhibition of the voter register from July 15 to 24, 2024, and distribute the provisional voters’ register to political parties between July 9 and July 18, 2024.
It is anticipated that the final voter registration will be available to political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024, setting the stage for a well-prepared electoral process.
