A presidential staffer, Dennis Miracle Aboagye has highlighted the importance of the government’s latest initiative; a comprehensive performance tracker.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, Mr Aboagye noted that the initiative is to enhance accountability and transparency in governance.
According to him, the tracker is not entirely new but rather an upgrade of the government's previous efforts.
He referenced the delivery tracker introduced in 2020, which outlined the government's programmes and projects, as the foundation on which the performance tracker was birthed.
“So this is just a continuation of something we’ve been doing already. But the first time, we called it a delivery tracker and this is a performance tracker, basically an upgrade of what we’ve done in the past,” he said.
Explaining the significance of the performance tracker, Mr Aboagye emphasised the crucial role of accountability and transparency in proper governance.
He stressed that in an era dominated by digital advancements, it is imperative to embrace and advocate for transparent practices.
Mr Aboagye expressed the belief that by openly sharing information about government activities, citizens can better understand, critique, and engage with the decision-making process.
He further stated, "Let the people know what is happening, let them critic and query it."
The staffer encouraged public scrutiny, asserting that it is essential for the government to welcome feedback, including identifying gaps and addressing concerns raised by citizens.
He emphasized that the performance tracker is a manifestation of the government's commitment to being accountable to the people it serves.
"There is nothing wrong if you put yourself out there for the people and they even identify gaps and they raise concerns about those gaps. So this tracker is one of the government’s ways of accounting to the people.”
