The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that the individual depicted in a viral video stuffing ballot papers into a ballot box is neither its staff nor was the incident related to the Ejisu by-election.
In a statement dated Thursday, May 2, 2024, the EC said the video "is unrelated to the operations of Ghana's Electoral Commission, let alone the Ejisu by-election."
The Commission highlighted discrepancies in the video, stating that the official in question was wearing a green vest, whereas its staff typically wear blue vests.
Additionally, another individual in the video was observed wearing an orange vest, further indicating a lack of correlation with EC operations.
Furthermore, the EC noted that its polling stations are typically situated in open spaces, whereas the polling station depicted in the video appeared to be in an enclosed area.
Moreover, the statement emphasised that each polling station in Ejisu was manned by at least six police officers in addition to candidate agents, a scenario not reflected in the circulated video.
