Junior high school students of Abasua in the Sekyere Central District who used to trek several kilometres to school in nearby communities can now access education in their backyard.

This follows the construction and donation of a JHS block, toilet facility, and a mechanized borehole to the local Abasua D/A JHS by popular American preacher and philanthropist, Apostle Wayne Jackson, and his wife, Dr. Beverly Jackson, who also donated a befitting palace to the community.

Education authorities are happy children in the area can now enjoy school.

For several years now, the Abasua community has been without a junior high school.

This means students after completing primary school will have to travel to nearby communities such as Atwea and Anwanya to continue JHS.

Many of these students end up carrying the luggage of Christian pilgrims who visit the Holy Abasua Mountains for a fee.

The story of Abasua was one of despair as students were forced to study under a dilapidated but life-threatening makeshift structure.

For many years, students from the community have had to travel to Atwea or Anwanya for junior high school education.

Headmaster of the local Abasua D/A Primary School, Richard Boakye, is unhappy many of his former students failed to further their education.

“When I came here, there wasn’t any JHS in this school. But we realized that after Primary 6, they used to further their education at one of the nearby towns, Atwea.

We realized that when they are to go to Atwea JHS, they don’t go to school. They normally, you see them loitering about and then carrying loads to the mountain for money.”

The story is, however, changing thanks to the benevolence of a popular American preacher, Apostle Wayne Jackson, and his wife, Dr. Beverly Jackson.

They have donated a newly constructed JHS block, toilet facility, and mechanized borehole to the community.

The couple, who are senior pastors at US-based Great Faith Ministries International, also constructed a palace for the chief of Abasua as a befitting gesture.

Schoolchildren danced their hearts out as they welcomed this gesture in joy and ecstasy.

The popular US preacher who was in the Atwea Mountains for a prayer retreat says he was instructed by God to come to the aid of the people.

“We came and climbed the big mountain to pray. And while I was up there, God told me to come to my people,” he said.

Apostle Wayne Jackson is the Founder and President of the Impact Network, the only all-African-American founded and operated National Christian Television Network in America.

The network, found on cable and satellite television as of 2020, was aired in over 100 million homes in the U.S., Bahamas and Africa.

As a strong advocate of feeding, clothing, and housing the poor, he had donated food items to residents of Abasua during an earlier trip.

District Education Director, Kwame Addo, says the gesture will go a long way to improve teaching and learning in the community.

“The community has been crying for a JHS. When they complete primary 6, they have to trek to Atwea and Anwanya for their junior high school education, and because of that, the community has been crying for a JHS block. Thanks be to God, we had a donor to give us a very nice structure.

Meanwhile, Apostle Wayne Jackson and his wife are promising to establish an ICT lab for the school.
