The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has likened the 24-hour economy policy to the shift system being implemented under the Free SHS program.

According to him, the policy as espoused by the NDC and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama seeks to increase job opportunities and extend working hours for businesses, industries, and institutions while operating around the clock.

The NPP has, however, criticized the policy, challenging the NDC on its implementation strategy.

But speaking at Pokrom in the Akuapem South constituency of the Eastern region as part of his nationwide campaign to garner votes for the NDC, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said members of the NPP have deliberately refused to understand the 24-hour economy policy.

He stated that if NPP members want to understand the 24-hour economy policy they should consult the Education Minister to explain to them how he was able to implement the shift system for the SHS students.

"Let's ask the NPP about this thing called shift system that they introduced for our kids in SHS. If you could run a shift system with our kids, why do you have a problem if we want to run a shift with adults through the 24-hour economy implementation?

"What is your problem if we want to implement a program where some workers will go on morning, afternoon and evening duties?" he quizzed.

Speaking to the teeming NDC crowd, the party chairman explained that the 24-hour economy policy will drastically reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

"The policy is such that three people can now run shift intervals of eight hours each within a 24-hour period for the same job. What is the difficulty in understanding this. Even a class one pupil wouldn't struggle to understand it," he stated.
