Rabies is a deadly viral disease that targets the nervous system, transmitted through the saliva of infected animals.
Once symptoms appear, the disease is always fatal, making it one of the most dangerous zoonotic threats globally.

Each year, rabies claims approximately 59,000 lives, mostly in Africa and Asia, with children under 15 particularly at risk.
Despite its deadly nature, many people underestimate the threat of rabies and often brush it off, leading to tragic consequences.

The Animal Aider Project (TAAP) is on a mission to fight rabies and other devastating animal diseases in Ghana through its VetReach initiative.
With the motto "No animal left behind," TAAP is dedicated to enhancing animal welfare, preventing zoonotic diseases, and promoting responsible pet ownership.

To date, TAAP has vaccinated over 700 animals, significantly contributing to public health and safety.
Since its inception, VetReach has organised successful vaccination and educational outreach events across various communities in Ghana including Lapaz, Racecourse on December 3, 2022.
The first VetReach event vaccinated 38 animals and provided deworming services. Veterinary volunteers also educated 24 participants on safe pet practices.
At Ho West on January 5-6, 2023, the outreach covered four communities, vaccinating 104 animals across Dodome-Awiausu, Dodome-Doglome, Ashanti-Kpoeta, and Achem-Kpoeta.

On September 25-30, 2023 at Birim North District in the Eastern Region in celebration of World Rabies Day, 148 animals were vaccinated against rabies, 512 against PPR, and 554 individuals received education on rabies prevention.
At Danfa, Otinibi, and Addoteiman on May 18, 2024, the event saw 100 animals vaccinated, furthering TAAP's mission.

Vaccination remains the most effective method to prevent rabies. By vaccinating pets and other animals, TAAP helps communities break the transmission cycle, safeguarding both animal and human health. Their commitment to offering high-quality veterinary care is irrespective of the owner's financial situation.
