The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has provided an update on the ongoing fire incident at Accra Zongo Lane, revealing that a portion of the affected structure has collapsed.
According to the GNFS, the eastern part of the building gave way amidst the blaze, which has proven challenging to control.
In a statement on Facebook the GNFS reported, “The eastern part of the affected structure at the Accra Zongo Lane fire has just collapsed.”
Despite the collapse, the GNFS assured the public that no injuries or casualties have been recorded among firefighters or civilians.
Efforts to completely extinguish the fire are still underway.
The GNFS is working tirelessly to bring the protracted blaze under control, ensuring that no further damage occurs and that the situation is fully resolved.
On Sunday, a destructive fire tore through the busy Zongo Lane near Rawlings Park in the Greater Accra Region, ravaging several shops and their contents.
Initial reports suggest the fire started in a small shop and quickly spread to nearby stores, filling the sky with thick black smoke.
The fire has been a significant concern for both local residents and authorities, prompting a swift response from the GNFS.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations will be conducted once the fire is fully contained.
The GNFS has urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow firefighters to carry out their duties effectively and ensure public safety.
