The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has raised concerns about the integrity of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) setup.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, he slammed the involvement of individuals with past affiliations to the NPP in the EC.
“We only need a neutral person. Asare Bossman was NPP before he joined the Commission, and there are others too” he claimed.
Mr Nketia expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of transparency adding that the issue is not just about the data but also about understanding how there are leakages.
“If there is a leakage in a bottle and you haven’t asked a third person to check it, what happens? We all need to see for ourselves. We need a consultant to check the integrity of the register. The current consultants are all NPP people and, therefore, cannot operate EC machines effectively.
The NDC has also called for an independent audit of the voter register, citing alleged irregularities. However, the EC has rejected this demand.
However, the former general scribe expressed concern that the system might be compromised and stressed the need for clarity.
“The EC is ignoring the fact that the system is robust. What we are saying is based on the robustness of the system. It’s not about who conducts the investigation but understanding the source of the leakage.”
In response to ongoing issues, the NDC has announced a nationwide demonstration, dubbed the ‘mother of all demonstrations,’ scheduled for September 17, 2024.
This protest will span all 16 regional capitals across Ghana. Speaking after filing the nomination of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, at the EC headquarters on September 9, 2024.
On the 17th of this month, the NDC will embark on a massive nationwide demonstration.
