The Electoral Commission (EC) has concluded its investigation into allegations of unauthorised voter transfers in the Pusiga Constituency.
The EC’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare noted that the EC official who conducted the transfers has been suspended.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile, he said that apart from the Pusiga incident, no vote transfer was recorded in any other constituency.
"The Pusiga incident, the EC issued a statement that the District officer in charge has been suspended and we have finished investigations," he said on Saturday, September 21.
These developments follow concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding discrepancies in the voter register, particularly reports of transfers involving voters from polling stations in the Tamale South and Sagnerigu constituencies to Pusiga.
The EC however conducted an investigation and the initial reports confirm that transfers were indeed effected for 38 individuals using the credentials of an EC official.
According to the EC, these transfers were detected through audit logs in the Voter Management System (VMS), which showed that photos from voters' ID cards were used for facial verification to complete the transfers.
Dr Asare indicated that it will be a bad omen to use an inaccurate voter register in the upcoming elections assuring that the process of updating and verifying the voter register for the elections is underway.
“We want all parties to be on board. It will be a bad omen on the Commission if we go into the election knowing that there are problems in the register that we can address.”
Dr Asare noted that all mistakes identified by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been addressed, but the party’s calls for re-exhibition and a forensic audit remain unaddressed.
