West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus has been charged with improper conduct following his red card during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, potentially facing an extended suspension.
The 24-year-old was sent off late in the match after an altercation with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr.
Initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley, the decision was upgraded to a straight red following a VAR review.
The Football Association (FA) has charged Kudus with improper and violent conduct.
A statement from the FA read: “Mohammed Kudus allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence that he was sent off for.”
Violent conduct offences typically result in a minimum three-game ban, but Kudus risks a longer suspension if the charge is upheld.
As a result, Kudus is set to miss upcoming matches against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton.
Following these fixtures, West Ham will face Newcastle and Arsenal after the next international break.
In addition to Kudus' charge, both West Ham and Tottenham have also been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during the altercation.
