A doctor at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Sika Lumor, has provided education on the seriousness of cancer and the need for early detection.
Dr. Lumor cautioned that late detection of the disease could result in preventable deaths.
According to her, the probability of dying from cancer is as high as 50%, which underscores the critical importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention.
She added that “because people are getting cancer and the side effect is huge that is why they celebrate Anesthesia and Cancer”.
The medical practitioner said this on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen Show on Wednesday, November 20, while educating the public on the effect of cancer and Anesthesia.
“If someone get the cancer and we diagnose it fast it helps the person to avoid surgery or radiotherapy.” Before one does the surgery they have to check whether the person has other chronic diseases and test the blood. After the operation, the pain the patient goes through is taken care of.
“People who have let the cancer spread in their system are called Palliative,” said Doctor Lumor.
She further explained that, in this situation, nothing could be done just that the Anesthesia group will help reduce the pain.
Doctor of Resident, Massi Afriyie Agyemang added, “for diagnosis purposes, the children also get cancer and if we want to help them like cutting MIR they can’t be stable so we have to let them sleep before we do it for them even the adult are scared.”
She explained that Stage 1 cancer cannot be compared to Stage 4 which is why early detection must be prioritised.
