Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to refrain from appointing partisan election officers ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He made these remarks in a Facebook post on Tuesday, November 26, urging the EC to ensure transparency and fairness in the election process.
In his post, Dr Omane Boamah stated that the NDC would be closely monitoring the selection of election officers and would compare the list of delegates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to those appointed to oversee the December 7 polls.
He expressed concerns that partisan appointments could undermine the credibility of the election results.
"Refreshing to note that the Electoral Commission Ghana is taking steps to stop Election officials including Presiding Officers from passing on information to un-named persons."
"We urge all elections officials to be professional and non-partisan. EC, do not appoint partisan elections officers."
The call from the NDC follows a recent communication from the EC to its Regional Directors, instructing them not to release the names of election officers to political parties.
The memo, issued on 24th November, stated that political parties were requesting the names of the officers to ensure they were able to communicate election results to them during the election process.
