The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, says the next NDC government will actively engage and work with queen mothers to fight poverty.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang said this when she addressed a forum of Central Regional Queen Mothers on Tuesday, November 26.
Speaking on the theme "Building the Central Region We Want, the Shared Perspectives from our Queen Mothers”, Prof Opoku-Agyemang said it leaves much to be desired that the Central Region is described as the fourth poorest region in Ghana.
She added governments must collaborate with traditional authorities, especially queen mothers, to fight poverty in the region.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the next NDC government will introduce a 24-hour economy policy, Women’s Development Bank, National Apprenticeship Programme and the Big Push to help create jobs and financially empower women across the country, adding “the Central Region would not be left out”.
She said, among other interventions to empower women, the next NDC government will also build new markets and expand infrastructure in the region.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang further noted that teenage pregnancy is also high in the region, promising that the next NDC government would collaborate with queen mothers to find a lasting solution to the problem.
She urged the queen mothers to vote massively for the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama to enable him to fulfill his electoral promises to the people of Ghana.
