Former Black Stars physiotherapist Professor Jonathan Quartey has revealed that he has been reassigned to the Black Galaxies following a directive from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kurt Okraku.
Speaking on Prime Take with Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, the University of Ghana lecturer disclosed that his exclusion from the Black Stars' technical team came after the reconstitution of the team post-Afcon 2023.
"I think shortly after the AFCON [in Cote d’Ivoire], the technical team was dissolved. If you all remember, the entire technical team was dissolved, so when it was reconstituted, I was not included in the current technical team," he stated.

Professor Quartey further explained that he was informed of his reassignment by the GFA via a phone call.
"I'm told that the president has asked that I should be reassigned. The president of GFA [said] I should be reassigned to the local Black Stars. So, as we speak, I'm supposed to be with the local Black Stars."
When asked about the reasons for his reassignment, Professor Quartey said no explanations were provided. "No reason was given to me, so I can't explain. I think that would be answered best by whoever said I should be redeployed."
He added: "I don't know, maybe there was a reshuffle, I don't know, but I got a call from the GFA that the president said I should be reassigned to the local Black Stars. They wanted me to know because the list was going to be made available within that period, so I was called and informed."

Despite the change, Professor Quartey expressed confidence in his work with the Black Stars, noting his contributions to the team during his tenure.
"I'm confident that I did a great job. I mean, we got results that were necessary. There were some injuries that I could make reference to.
"There were some knocks, aches, and pains that came as a result of being in camp, and these were well treated by the medical team, including me."
Reflecting on his formal engagement with the GFA, he stated, "In 2020, when I was appointed, I was given a letter. When we went into the World Cup, Chris Hughton and Otto Addo insisted, so we actually wrote and signed a formal contract with the GFA for that period. There's been some paperwork regarding my presence within the Black Stars."
Prof Quartey insisted that he contributed to ensuring the players were in good shape, but has not clue why he has been asked to join the Black Galaxies instead.
"Well, I am sure you need to ask the GFA these questions because they will give you better answers because I actually don't have these answers. It would be difficult for me to answer. What I know is that I was called and told that I've been reassigned to the local Black Stars."
Professor Quartey reiterated that he holds no grievances over the decision but emphasised his commitment to his role. "I'm not being political, I was called and told, so if I had all the reasons before me, I would make them known to you, to be very honest, but I don't."
Prime Take airs every Friday on the AM Show, Saturday at 7:30 PM and repeat on Sunday at 11 AM on JoyNews.
