The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum, has clarified that the clubs were informed that the buses presented to them by the GFA were not brand new.
As part of its commitment to supporting teams in the Ghana Premier League and Division One League, the GFA recently distributed buses to nine clubs in the three zones in the Division One League.
The presentation ceremony, held on Wednesday, 20 November 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw clubs such as Young Apostles, Okwahu United, New Edubiase United, Basake Holy Stars, and Vision FC among the beneficiaries.
However, a video circulating on social media revealed the buses’ worn interiors, sparking public concern.
Speaking on Game Plan on Joy FM, Asante-Twum clarified the situation, stating that while the clubs were made aware the buses were not new, the issue likely stemmed from their condition.
"Clubs were aware the buses were not brand new. I think the problem was with the condition," he explained.
"It is unfortunate that some of the clubs received buses that were not in good condition. It was never the intention of the GFA to provide buses that would cause problems for the clubs instead of assisting them."
Meanwhile, the GFA has yet to distribute the remaining buses, which are still at the Tema Harbour awaiting clearance.
