Voting at Mempasem, a remote community in the Sunyani West constituency, faced delays Saturday as the biometric verification machine used to identify voters failed to recognise eligible voters. A Joynews correspondent confirmed the technical issue.
Technicians of the Electoral Commission (EC) worked to find an solutions to the problem, and election agents agreed to collaborate to ensure voting could proceed smoothly.
There was no official statement from the EC or the presiding officer regarding the possibility of extending voting hours, however the EC, in its media briefings, acknowledged the challenge and said either the technicians resolved all such issues or polling officials had to resort to back-up devices.
Mempasem, which is predominantly populated by farmers, has 52 registered voters for this election.
