The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah, has emerged victorious in the December 7 general elections.
Shiabu Migyimah secured a historic win with 16,343 votes, representing 50.6%, defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Godfred Anewu, who garnered 15,926 votes, representing 49.4%.
This victory is particularly significant as it follows the decision of the former NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to opt out of the race.
Mr Agyapong, who had previously defeated Shiabu Migyimah and held the seat for the NPP, endorsed Godfred Anewu to retain the seat for the party.
However, Saturday’s polls reflected the constituents' decision to support the NDC candidate, marking a notable shift in the political landscape of Assin Central, traditionally a stronghold of the NPP.
