General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Nkrumah Botsio has expressed disappointment over the party’s performance in the recent election, acknowledging that their results were poor. Despite this, he assured that the party would learn from its shortcomings.
Mr Botsio emphasized that the CPP was regrouping and planning to provide Ghanaians with the government they deserve in 2028, which he affirmed would be a CPP government.
“We have had some internal wrangling for some years now, and it might seem as if it is only since 2020, but it goes back a few years,” he stated.
The CPP was banned in 1966 and only regained its footing in the year 2000. By then, many of its former members had joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP), leaving behind the loyalists who remained in the party.
Mr Botsio also highlighted the financial challenges and infighting the party faced as a result of members leaving.
He pointed to a positive development in May 2024, when, through the efforts of their leaders, the CPP was able to unite and elect a flagbearer.
