The 2025 edition of the Urban Sports Festival which is one of Ghana’s most exciting cultural and sporting event is set to take place on Saturday, January 25 in Accra.
This year’s festival which will be held at the iconic Ghud Park is designed to shine a spotlight on Ghana’s emerging urban sports scene, with a mission to nurture and elevate local talent onto the global stage.
Organised by the Ghanaian NGO DUNK (Developing Unity, Nurturing Knowledge), in partnership with the French Embassy in Ghana, the event aims to provide a professional platform for young athletes while fostering a sense of community and innovation.
Attendees can expect an action-filled programme showcasing the best of Ghanaian talent and culture, including competitive tournaments in 3x3 basketball, breaking (a form of breakdancing), and skateboarding, featuring Ghana’s top urban athletes.
Live music and dance performances from renowned Ghanaian artists will celebrate the vibrancy of the nation’s arts scene, while engaging workshops and family-friendly activities are set to inspire creativity and connection.
Food and drinks from some of Accra’s finest vendors will also be on offer to keep the energy high.
The Urban Sports Festival is not just an event; it’s a movement aimed at empowering Ghana’s youth through sports and culture.
Co-founder of the Dunk Grassroots, Mohammed Tahir, emphasised the transformative potential of urban sports:
“Sports like basketball, skateboarding, and breaking are more than just games—they’re powerful expressions of identity, resilience, and creativity.
This festival gives young athletes a platform to compete, grow, and dream big,” he said.
The Urban Sports Festival 2025 is proudly supported by the French Embassy in Ghana. The Embassy’s support has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life, reflecting a shared commitment to youth empowerment and cultural exchange.
The collaboration also highlights the importance of international partnerships in fostering local talent.
Urban Sports Festival 2025 is expected to draw thousands of spectators and participants, making it a landmark event in Ghana’s cultural calendar.
It’s a unique opportunity to witness the fusion of sports, art, and community spirit while supporting the next generation of Ghanaian talent.
The festival will run from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM on January 25th at Ghud Park, Accra.
