Kusaas Diaspora Union (KUDU) has been officially launched on January 4, 2025 to spearhead global unity and development for the Kusaas people.
The union’s emphasis on unity, leadership, and collaboration promises to foster progress and empowerment for generations to come.
The event, hosted on Zoom, brought together participants from France, Ghana, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and the United States.
Held under the theme "Empowering Global Unity, Leadership, and Collaboration of Kusaas in Diaspora," it aims to promote solidarity and drive strategic development for the Kusaas community.
A Call for Unity
The Kusaas Chief of the USA and Chairman of the Launch Committee, Chief Professor George Agbango, who opened the ceremony stressed the importance of KUDU as a platform to unite the Kusaas people globally.
“This is a historic moment, and KUDU will be the key to safeguarding the interests of the Kusaas people and advancing the development of Kusaug,” said Agbango in his opening address.
His words resonated with the attendees, setting the tone for the proceedings.
The Vision & leadership induction
The keynote speaker, Michael B. Apisiga Esq, delivered a speech on the vision, mission, and objectives of KUDU.
He spoke about the need for collective action among the Kusaas. "It is only through unity and concerted effort that we can achieve our common goals," Apisiga said.
He called on all Kusaas people to embrace their shared responsibility and work together to elevate the community.
The induction ceremony was officiated by Professor Paul Kuruk, an internationally recognized law scholar.
He introduced the newly elected members of the Diaspora Executive Council (DEC) and the Advisory Council, who took their oaths of office.
The new DEC members include: Michael B. Apisiga Eqs and Dr. John M. Atibila as Co-chairs, Dr. Sharon V. Mumuni as Secretary, Dr. Alhassan Ndekugri as Financial Secretary, and Lillian Ndadi as Treasurer.
Azumah Amidini was appointed Strategic Diaspora Liaison, with Patrick Ayambah and Joseph Ayaaba representing the USA and UK, respectively.
The Advisory Council is chaired by Chief Prof. George Agbango, with members including Prof. Issaka Ndekugri, Prof. Paul Kuruk, Cllr. Dominic Mbang, Ms. Alice Laadi Abugri, ACP Azumah Abass, Hajia Zenabu Salifu, and David Adoliba.
Chief Prof. Agbango commended the new leadership for their dedication to KUDU’s mission and urged all members to collaborate, stating, "Together, we will bring the vision of KUDU to fruition."
Strategic discussions and open forum
The launch also included a dynamic open forum where participants shared their insights and suggestions.
Secretary of Zugraan, Bawku Baba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, David Adoliba conveyed a special message from Zugraan. The message focused on the importance of unity and collaboration for achieving KUDU’s objectives.
"Unity is the foundation upon which we will build a prosperous future for the Kusaas people," Adoliba quoted the paramount chief.
Other participants discussed various issues affecting the community, including the integration of minority ethnic groups within Kusaug.
ACP James Azumah Abass highlighted the necessity of involving the youth in KUDU’s initiatives, while Dr. Francis Abugbilla stressed the need for diplomacy and peaceful coexistence among different groups.
The Adoption of KUDU’s Constitution
A key moment in the event was the formal adoption of KUDU’s Constitution. Professor Paul Kuruk reassured the members that the document would be made available to all, ensuring inclusivity and transparency in KUDU’s operations.
"The Constitution is a critical step in formalizing KUDU as an organization that represents the collective interests of the Kusaas people," Mr. Kuruk said.
The Call to Action
The event ended with a call to action by Dr. Sharon V. Mumuni, the Secretary of KUDU. She expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the importance of continued dedication to KUDU’s mission.
"Today marks the beginning of a new era for the Kusaas Diaspora. We must all stand together and commit to the success of this noble initiative," Madam Mumuni said.
The leadership of KUDU says they are poised to drive meaningful change for the Kusaug Kingdom and the broader Kusaas community.
