Activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has refuted claims that he is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the claims of him being an NDC member are untrue.
“Unfortunately, I must address the claims that 'it is a notorious fact he’s a member of the NDC'. With the victory of the NDC, now everybody says they are NDC members. But this is completely untrue. I have not been a member of the NDC in the past,'” he clarified when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29 after accusing them of demanding money from ministerial nominees before granting their approval after being vetted.
This follows claims made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin during an Appointments Committee session, where Afenyo-Markin described him as a “notorious member of the NDC.”
He further clarified his political allegiance, asserting his support for the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
“And it is my hope that my ideology which has always been stated, I have always voted constantly for the CPP and I will continue to do so,” he added.
Additionally, he apologised to Parliament's Appointments Committee for the bribery allegation.
Mr Barker-Vormawor explained that his comments were not intended to harm the committee's reputation.
"I want to make it clear that my post was not meant to disparage any member of the committee. I did not intend to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes from any individual. For this reason, I apologise," he said.
He also agreed to the Committee's request to issue a disclaimer to that comment and publicise his apology to the Committee for it to get the same attention that his initial post received.
