The Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security (IES), Nana Amoasi VII, has warned that Ghanaians should brace themselves for continued power outages, commonly referred to as dumsor, until the end of the year.
Speaking on the persistent energy challenges facing the country on Citi FM's Eyewitness News, Nana Amoasi VII highlighted the critical inefficiencies within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as the root cause of the ongoing crisis.
According to him, until ECG addresses its operational shortcomings, collects sufficient revenue, and ensures equitable distribution among stakeholders in the energy sector, the situation will remain dire.

“We know very well that we have these challenges, and until we address the inefficiencies in the ECG, I am sorry to say again that we will see dumsor till the end of the year," he said.
“Until the ECG fixes its inefficiency, collects enough of the revenue, and ensures that each participant within the energy sector gets a fair share of the revenue, we will continue to have this challenge,” he added.
He explained that the revenue shortfalls significantly hinder the operations of key players in the energy value chain. GRIDCo, responsible for power transmission, struggles to invest in its aging infrastructure, while ECG itself faces infrastructural challenges due to inadequate funds.
“It will be difficult for the power generator, be it public or private, to generate power because they also need to make some input into the power generation. There will be difficulty for WAPCo to continue supplying the natural gas. So, we are in a very uncomfortable state,” he noted.
